A Thanksgiving race on the horizon

Sara and Pat (her honey) are going to spend Thanksgiving with us for the first time together.  Needless to say, we are happy that they are going to be here.  Deb always cooks enough for 3 or 4 families and after the usual (old) neighborhood football game Thursday morning, we eat and then scatter, some watching football, some doing whatever they do after eating. Sounds like a typical Thanksgiving, right?  It is and that's the way we like it.

This year, I have convinced most of the family (and its' extensions) to run a 5k with me.  Sara and Pat, Jake and sandy, Sam and I will all be running a 5k on the Sprint campus.  It's not a big race but it should be fun.  We need a team name so Sam came up with SEITZ FOR SORE EYES.  Predictable, right?Sandy is going to have t-shirts made and the best part about the whole thing is that I get to pay for everything - entry fees, shirts and the beer after.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

Prep for the race is going to be interesting.  I haven't done a lick of anything fast in about 9 months.  Every step has been slow and easy.  And with my every-other-day training regime, it is going to be even harder to prepare for something short (wait, did I just say that 3+ miles was short?).  Today, I decided that I had to do something to break the boredom of 8:45 miles so I ran 4 at just over 8 pace, with the second mile being somewhere around 7:20.  I was really surprised at how good I felt, especially since the last mile is primarily up hill.  I'm certain that I'll pay for it tomorrow but for now, let me watch the World Series, sip a cold beverage, and bask in the afterglow of a good workout.
