The sun shone and it looked warm today - I should have known better. The streets are clear but the sidewalks are still covered so I decided to try and stay close to home, run through the neighborhoods, and try to get a long run in (see below - I missed yesterday's). It seems that I can get exactly a mile through our neighborhood and a little more than a mile by going across the street, essentially looping the two sub-divisions. Five loops and I was done with a 10 miler (amazing, my powers of math, huh Sara?). It wasn't particularly cold but the wind was 15-20, making it feel slightly colder than it was. Once warmed up, I was OK but the shade was still chilling.
The best part of today was the discipline required to finish strong. I originally thought of going 6, realized that 8 was doable, and at the 8 mile mark, had a momentary thought of calling it quits. Momentary was all it was and I decided to go another mile, ending at the house. Well, at 9 I figured that another mile wouldn't kill me and finished the loop. It was gratifying to have shown that little bit of toughness since I know that at 20 miles, I'll feel like quitting.
Next time, another loop is in order.
