20 degrees in Kansas City

Cold and windy today but I ended up doing almost 8, some of it with a buddy. We ran about 4 miles together and then (after his 3 workouts yesterday) his tank was empty so I went on alone. Today was originally (pre-calf) supposed to be 8, so "almost 8" was pretty good. And, after 5 miles in the cold and wind, I felt pretty good. I find myself wondering how much farther I could have gone on a day like today, wondering if I'm ever going to work up to be able to run 26.1.

Running with a partner was a special treat for me today. This is only the second time I've run with anyone since I started back running and, while I really enjoy the solitude of going solo, there is something about running with a partner that seems to make it easier. Testosterone, fear of failure in front of someone else, male machismo - who knows. I only know I run farther and faster with someone else.

Fo anyone planning to run a half marathon within, say, the next 10 months, in maybe Chicago, you probably should start SOMETIME. And there is no time like the present!
