True to my word, after Thursdays's 13 miles, Friday was an off day, Saturday was 4 @ 8:15 pace, Sunday was an elliptical day and today was 3@ 8:45. Truthfully, Saturday's run was much faster than I had planned for and faster than I believed I was able to run. Today's effort was about average and one for which I was planning to go a bit slower. For the first time, I am finally feeling like my fitness has returned, even though I have put on the "winter 5 pounds" that I seem to gain when it gets cold. It doesn't help that my I haven't really been watching my diet as much as I have in the past.
Thanksgiving's 5k is going to be interesting for two reasons: 1) it will be my first race since the 10k last January (the half marathon with Sara really doesn't count as a race - sorry Sara!) and 2) the weather is supposed to be the coldest of the year - low on Thanksgiving day of under 20. I'm not concerned about the cold too much as I don't plan to be running for that long. It is only a 5k. I am wondering about pace and time. I know I can easily run 6:30 for a mile and 7:00 for 2 shouldn't be too hard. It's that third mile that I'm not sure about. I'd like to run under 22 minutes but I'm just not sure if that's realistic given the lack of any speed training.
Actually, I'd like to finish without injury, go home, eat a great meal and fall asleep while watching football.
