It's officially winter here in Kansas City. It was 43 at noon when I went out for my long run of the week. Upon leaving the house, it seemed fairly warm but about an hour into the run, I realized that I should have brought my gloves. Other than my hands, I was fairly comfortable, dressed in shorts, a wicking t-shirt and a heavier high neck t-shirt over that. It was my fingers that got cold. Chalk up another learning opportunity.
The run itself was encouraging - 13 miles at 8:55 pace. Again, not as slow as I would have liked but encouraging in that I felt good for about 12 3/4 miles. In the last few hundred yards, I felt the beginning of cramps developing in my calves, which I attribute to dehydration. As I write this, some 5 hours later, other than some general fatigue, I feel fine, so I'm not worried about a recurrence of the calf problems I've had in the past. Chalk up yet another learning opportunity. Drink during any run longer than an hour.
Weather forecast for Thanksgiving day, when the kids and I are scheduled for a 5k - cold, possibly snow on the ground from the day before, with a morning low of 13. Yea......
Tomorrow is an off day, Saturday an EASY 4-5 and Sunday elliptical. Maybe....
