Back in the Saddle Again

Take it easy.  You are returning after 3 weeks off.  You ate too much on vacation and although you ran (a little bit) while on vacation, you were a fool and fell off a machine that no one ever fell off of before (W notwithstanding).  Go slow.  It's a journey, not a sprint.  Take it easy.

OK, I listened.  Tuesday, the first day that I was officially sanctioned (by the doc and my wife) to exercise, I went back to the trusty elliptical.  One hour of moderate work but it sure felt good to feel bad again.  I did feel it Wednesday, coming back with 16 hours between workouts.  The elliptical got me for 45 minutes this time, at a slower pace.  Today will be another hour, but at a relaxed pace.

What, you may ask, do I consider a relaxed pace?  Turnover of approximately 70 per minute (one total revolution equals a turnover of 1) at an intensity somewhere in the middle of the scale.  Every machine is different, so your mileage may vary.  In terms of calories per hour, I generally expend somewhere between 800 and 1000 on a hard day.  The intensity for "relaxed" might be around 600 cal./hr.

This weekend is a National Association of School Boards convention in San Francisco, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.  The weather there is supposed to be colder than KC (50s) so runn.....wait a minute, I won't be running.  I better go check the hotel's fitness facilities.

Not sure what this picture conveys but there isn't much on the web site.

More later...
