2012 Chicago Half Marathon Finish with Sara and Jacob

So let's see...last post was March 31...

To all of my loyal readers (hahah, hoho, hehe, that's a funny one..."all of my loyal readers"....like there are any! Hahaha), I've decided to make a grand comeback to the blogosphere, the kind of comeback Brett Favre continues to make...only he makes a heck of a lot more money with his comebacks than I. But that's a story for another time.

When we last chatted, I was recovering from an ITB issue, and I was supposed to curtail my maniacal running and shift toward a more normal load. And I did. Kind of. Sort of. So here's the truth. I began my recovery with the best of intentions - run every other day with cross training in between. And I did. Kind of. Sort of. Until the weather got really nice. And it got warm, and the gym got really cold (too much A/C) and I hated being inside to work out when I could just as easily be outside. And I did. But not too much, mind you. I did intersperse running with elliptical and weights. For a while. Kind of. Sort of. And then, lo and behold, I found myself running almost every day. Surprised? Me neither. Until I did just a little too much and alas, that old nemesis, calf cramps found their way back into my lexicon. so now, I look like an old man, hobbling along, running at just under 9 minute pace. No pain but I can feel my right calf every now and again, just like I used to be able to feel a hamstring issue coming on. My mileage is down (WAY down) but at least it's slow...

Sooooooo, here's the story. Sara, Sam and I are still planning to run the Chicago Rock and Roll Half Marathon a week from this Sunday. Sam hasn't been running much. Sara is happy to be running (and I am way proud of her) but none of us are up to "peak competitive condition". So here's the plan. Run. Slow. Then run a little slower. Stay together and enjoy the scenery, the lake, the music. Finish. Experience. Have fun. Tell some jokes. Relive the past. Most of enjoy, enjoy one another's company. Sara and Sam - you have no idea how much I am looking forward to spending this tiime with you. I only wish that Mom, Ben and Jacob were doing it with us.

And to anyone else reading this....that's what it's all about.....

  1. "Hobbling along" just under a 9-min pace? Yeah...that sure sounds like hobbling to me.
