On the Road Again......

Back on the road this morning for a 1.5 jog, and I do mean jog. About 10 minutes a mile. My calf felt great since the half marathon and I decided to try running again. This time, however, I put in a half hour on the elliptical, kind of as a warm-up. That warming up stuff should work. You would think that after 40 years of running I would already know that but if you have read any of this blog, you would know that I am a slow learner.

Truthfully, I missed running.

The plan going forward, you ask? OK, here goes - every other day running. I will still get in my elliptical every day but I'm going to try to go easy on the legs (running-wise) for a while. Let's see if 1) I can hold to my plan, 2) running every other day mentally satisfies me and 3) if my legs hold up any better.

One more thing, and I will comment on this in a later post - 55 is coming and there's not a damned thing I can do about it. The problem is that mentally, sometimes I think I'm still 18, but my body keeps reminding me I'm almost 55. And I keep trying to work like I'm 18. Rest? Bah. Recuperate? Nah.

Stay tuned!

  1. I think it sounds like a very wise plan. And I'm so glad to hear that your calf is feeling better! I was a little worried during the "event" (since we can't really call it a "race") about you. I finally started running again in a bit of an attempt to train for the 10k, and these smaller distances that I'm supposed to run feel great and very doable!! Although I'm still going slower than your "jog" pace, I am going faster than I was before, so we'll see how it goes.

  2. You are right about our race. It was a contest of the mind and body, not a race against anyone else.

I am glad that you are running again. From now on, anything less than 13 IS very doable for you. And remember, it's not how fast, it's the finishing that counts
