After the Chicago race (well, not exactly a race - more of an event), my calf once again began to act up. Truthfully, at about 8 miles, it began to seriously bother me. Again, it was almost cramp-like, but not exactly a cramp. Almost like something deeper, although the onset of pain is like a cramp. So here's the deal. No more running for a month. Yep, a month. I am going to continue to elliptical like always but stay off of running until September 1. If it still bothers me then, on to a doctor. I will. Really. I promise.
I read an article yesterday that 50% of all runners are injured enough to need to take time off at least once a year. Upon doing a little more research, I find that there are studies out the wazoo, most contradictory, but the widest range I've seen are between 17% and 80% of all runners have a time-off injury during any given year. I'm not going to even try to determine why. I just thought that the numbers are staggering. My cause? Sheer stupidity. Pigheadedness. Stubbornness. Lack of common sense.
But we all knew that going into this discussion.
In the meantime, off to the gym....
