I've said before that running at the beach is the best. Fresh air, warm breezes, and in September, a dearth of people. Deb and I have been here for a week and are thoroughly enjoying our short time. Sue, you had the right idea years ago.
So when do we move here? I'd be lying if I said, "I have no desire/intention/plan to move here". Like anything, it's all a matter of timing. Sam and school, Ben and school, Jacob and Sara being 1,500 miles away instead of 15 and 400 respectively. We have seen a lot of beautiful ocean front homes and while a LITTLE pricey, they are within a stretch reach (if we need only one bedroom).
Now, about this running thing. Today is a rest day. Yep, rest. I got up at 6:30 and thought about a short run but remembered my promise - a day off every so often and only running every other day. And increasing mileage by 10% (or so) per week. Since I didn't run yesterday, I could have gotten away with a run today but would have failed miserably on the other two accounts. So today is an off day.
Everything feels great, though. Calves, knees, lungs, upper body. I've seen training plans for both marathons and halves in which you train 6 days out of 7, alternating cross training with running. Maybe that's the key. For now, I'll just stick to my guns. It is difficult waking up after eating crab cakes, fries, ice cream, and popcorn (last night) and having the body say that it's ready for a run. I guess denial is good sometimes. Oh well, back to the feeding trough.
Mom comes tomorrow to celebrate her birthday with us and stay a few days. We are looking forward to that.
